At Sky I work on various internal and external projects such as Sky Movies and Sky sports using the latest tools & frameworks. Depending on the project I have experience in using multiple languages such as Java, PHP as well as client side technologies also working with multiple platforms: unix, mac & windows.
During my time at the company I have developed several tools using Java working with swing, JSP and using multi-threading logic for testing. I also wrote a couple of J-unit test cases for the Amelco Trading System (ATS) platform. During testing of the ATS I used Linux quite a lot to be able to go into the logs and find any errors that appeared on the ATS system or if there were any errors being sent from integration partners to ATS such as OpenBet along with managing different frameworks of ATS. Also using tools such as JIRA and TestRail helped me to keep track of testing and manage test cases. My main time at Amelco consisted of Black and Grey box testing and writing test case with results of the tests completed on ATS clients. While I was at Amelco I managed to work with several other technologies apart from Java such as Python, Jetty, Postgres SQL and some Bash scripting. Amelco was a great company to work with as it helped further enhance my development and testing skills as well as introduce me to new skills and also to work with interesting people.
My Time at FDM included being trained in current technologies used in the IT industry such as Java J2EE 1.6, UNIX and Oracle SQL. As a trainee Java developer I was taught object oriented key principles such as SOLID, design patterns and different frameworks for example Spring MVC 2.5-3.0 and Hibernate. During my time at FDM I worked in a team to complete a web based Java project which was a trading platform where shareholders and brokers can buy and sell trades from different companies. The project was based around agile framework. The project has helped me to learn about version control such as SVN, JSPs, servlets and Tomcat 1.6.
Testing software using different testing environments and methods as follows: • Running scripted software testing • Reporting to and liaising closely with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure issues are effectively dealt with and projects run to schedule • Methodical approach to testing While working at Capscan I have completed several programming projects to help automate the testing of products using different programming languages and technologies, which include: • Java/Junit with (Selenium) • HTML (CSS), XML, PHP, SQL, Unix Scripting • Windows (x64/x86) and Linux (x64/x86) Working at Capscan I gained a lot of experience in the IT industry for example: how deadlines are met, how projects are handled and making complex discussions late in the development phase and further enhancing my knowledge working within in a team.
Completed with a placement year at Capscan
(Equivalent to 3 A-Levels at Grade A) Project: I programmed a robot using Java to follow a track created by the user using the graphical user interface which I also created using Java. I gained valuable experience in project management and developed strong programming and problem solving skills.
